Whether you recently read the A Court of Thorns and Roses series and are already impatient for the next book, or you’re an OG reader who’s been waiting literal years for an update…we finally got some tea.
In a recent appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, author Sarah J. Maas finally broke her silence on the next installment in the A Court of Thorns and Roses universe.
Here’s everything we know about ACOTAR 6, from official news to fan theories and the plot questions that are still haunting us.
The Biggest ACOTAR News
Let’s start with the announcements straight from the source we’ve all been waiting to hear from.
During the podcast, Maas revealed that the next ACOTAR story is so big it couldn’t fit in a single book. “The story that was finally ready to come out of me was big. Really, really big” she said.
By the time she finished writing the first portion, she said it was already around 400 pages — and that was just the beginning.
So instead of forcing it into one massive novel, the story is being released across multiple connected books. Maas explained that the upcoming installments are meant to be read as “one massive, massive story.”
In other words: this isn’t just ACOTAR 6. It’s basically a giant multi-book arc.
Confirmed Release Dates
Here’s the timeline we currently know:
- ACOTAR Book 6 (Part 1) — October 27, 2026
- ACOTAR Book 7 (Parts 2 & 3) — January 12, 2027
- Part 4 of the story — currently being written, release date unknown
So yes… we’re getting two books only a few months apart.
This is actually intentional. Maas said she wants readers to experience the story without waiting years between installments. (Thank you, Sarah!!!)
What Sarah J. Maas Said on Call Her Daddy
The interview gave fans a rare look into Maas’s writing process and why this book took so long.
A few interesting takeaways:
The story came to her suddenly
- Maas said she finally found the right story while in Montana:
- “As I started writing this in like this Montana energy vortex, it came out of me in a way that surprised me.”
She waited until the story felt right
- She admitted the delay happened because she needed to find the correct direction for the characters.
- “It’s been a long time coming.”
The narrative structure will be different
- Instead of wrapping up arcs book by book, the new installments will function more like pieces of one giant storyline.
- Which probably means we should emotionally prepare for multiple cliffhangers.
Popular Fan Theories (Because We Can’t Help Ourselves)
Until we get an official synopsis, the fandom is doing what it does best: theorizing. Here are some of the most popular predictions floating around BookTok and Reddit.
- Elain Archeron will be the next main POV
Many fans think her story is next after Nesta’s arc in A Court of Silver Flames.
- The Elain–Lucien–Azriel love triangle will explode
This might finally answer the question of whether mating bonds can be rejected.
- Tamlin redemption arc
Maas hinted this could be explored in the future, which has the fandom extremely divided.
- Mor’s full power reveal
Fans have long suspected her abilities are much bigger than we’ve seen.
- A deeper crossover with other Maas series
Especially after the events of House of Flame and Shadow in the Crescent City universe.
- A massive Prythian-wide conflict
Some readers believe the story is building toward a war involving multiple courts.
Are these theories correct? Who knows. But they do keep us entertained while we wait!
Unanswered Plot Threads From Previous Books
There are a lot of lingering questions in the ACOTAR world that book six could finally address.
What exactly are Mor’s powers?
We know it’s the power of “Truth” but her magic has never been fully explained.
What is Elain’s true role as a Seer?
Her visions and prophetic abilities have barely been explored.
What’s happening with Lucien’s heritage?
We still don’t know how that revelation will affect the political landscape of Prythian.
Can mating bonds be rejected?
This question keeps popping up in the story — and could become a major theme.
What will happen with Tamlin?
Whether he gets redemption, revenge, or closure is still up in the air.
The fate of the human lands
The political future of humans vs. fae still feels unresolved.
Basically… there’s a lot left to unpack.
What We Don’t Know Yet
Even with the announcement, several major details are still under wraps:
- The official title of ACOTAR 6
- The main point-of-view character
- The cover reveal
- The official plot synopsis
- The release date for Part 4
Given how secretive Maas tends to be, we probably won’t learn much until closer to release. But if there’s one thing ACOTAR fans are good at…it’s waiting.
